Details:

Waterville Cascades turned out to be much better than I thought. Cascade Brook makes a series of leaps, 8 major leaps and several interstitial cascades.

Geology and Bedrock Structure:

The falls make several drops over the Norway Quartz Monzonite.

History:

Photography Notes:

You’ve got a lot of falls with a lot of angles here. The glen was shaded enough so that even in sunlight, I only got skunked on a couple of the individual drop. If you go on an overcast day, you’ll have a lot of opportunity for good photography. Many of the drops are very photogenic. Have your tripod, your polarizer and your warming filter. This place is extensive, and it’s great.

Directions:

Take Route 49 into Waterville Valley. Park at the Snows Mountain Ski Area, preferably closer to the farther end of the parking area. Just beyond the parking area, you’ll see a paved road leading up the hill. Follow this for a few hundred feet and you’ll have a ski trail coming in on your left. Walk up the ski trail, passing two branches until you see the sign for Cascade Path. Follow the yellow blazes.
